My primary role in this wonderful project was to design a cover for each track in the EP through using a visual layering style that merged both analogue and digital worlds. The red thread was used to build continuity so that you could feel a sense of “connectedness” when previewing the artwork side by side. Red material and thread was also used within the music videos to ensure we had a cohesive visual language throughout.

The process of creating each cover involved the following steps:

EXPLORATION -

- Printing

- Photographing

- Cutting

- Scanning

DESIGN -

- Building a layout using the scans

- Colour correcting

- Applying type

Scanning

We essentially wanted to make a collage but without it feeling too obvious or digitalised so when it came to cutting and hand layering these images, I wasn't precious at all and completely binned the notion of perfectionism. Winnie and her team really wanted that "hand-made" feel which is why 80% of the leg-work and design process took place in the exploration phase.

Exploration – Photographs

To have the art feel more dynamic, the thread was pieced through paper in different styles and directions which formed interesting shadows and holes on the paper which can be seen in the covers below:

I COULD SWIM EP COVER

I put together a mini zine to introduce Winnie Raeder to the wider team. The key here was scarcity, simplicity and visual consistency.

The idea was to edit a bunch of footage in a similar style to what we saw in the Jeen-Yuhs documentary with the audio of one clip seamlessly merging into the visual of another. We also wanted Winnie’s artistry to shine through and for the mood of the teaser to capture the mood of the EP.
